This was my final that I turned in to my digital class. My professor was quite pleased with how it turned out even though it would've been nice it I went in and added a bit more detail later on. For my final (the left side picture) I made my very first digital illustration/airbrush tool painting design. For the final we had to take a line drawing and and color/depth to it. So I took a Bob Marley line drawing design and went to town with the skin tone colors and layers tool. I loved this assignment, I found it challenging and refreshing. I had little to no experience painting or illustrating people with skin tones darker than mine. Making this piece helped me not only want to try a media that I am not familiar with, but also become a better artist. Digital painting. Illustration. In our digital design class we were taught how to use Photoshop to make designs from scratch using only the line tool. This is my first attempt at making a digital drawing using only the "drawing tool". I decided to make a drawing that had more meaning to me. So I decided to make my drawing of the famous Quetzalcoatl hieroglyph. Digital media. This was a digital collage self portrait for my Digital Design class. I scanned the line drawing of a caricature I drew in school and over lapped it on a photograph of myself. Underneath the drawing are juxtaposed flowers and leaves that I also scanned and placed in a very ornamental fashion. Design, digital media. In this piece we had to take a segment or 'focal point' from the before mentioned design collage and make it into a Grey scale painting design. If you look closely to the left side of the color spectrum collage; you can see the lion face portion. That became my abstracted section that I turned into a completely different piece. In my Design class we had an installation project. We where to use a strong focal point for the installation and if we wanted we could use up to 3 connecting walls. There was just one requirement: It had to look perfect when looked at from a certain angle. This installation was inspired by The Legend of Zelda, Majora's Mask. This picture was captured from the point of view of the viewer. The depth and perspective of the piece was so perfect, it was actually stolen later on. The media was Acrylic paint over paper that was taped together. Sophomore. In class still life, vine and compressed charcoal drawing. This is an additive drawing; the opposite of the erase away drawings. The purpose of this was to not focus too much on the big details but rather try and cover as much in the given time frame. This was a bit challenging for me. I tend to fixate on details often. This is perhaps my favorite of still lifes I made in my sophomore year in MCA. The light source came from the left side of the drawing. There, you can see a cinder block behind a bottle of wine. The same lantern is at the center and an old miniature grandfather clock next to it. Behind the clock, another glass bottle and in front of the clock an umbrella. Rendering the wine bottle I found, was quite enjoyable. I feel like addressing the different textures of glass, cement, wood and plastic was successful in this piece. This is the first erase away drawing that I finally gave in on using a bit of burnt amber charcoal to accent the cloth dropped down behind the still life and a bit on the different materials. I did not however use a lot of this color. Using too much would've made it look muggy. This is also the only still life where I used white to accent certain areas. The ONLY parts that have a bit of white charcoal are the cinder block and wine bottle label. Erase away. Compressed white, black and burnt amber charcoal. This was an in class assignment. A compilation of different textures. A metal and glass lantern, a table, bones, wooden box and ornaments. Yet another erase away drawing made with both compressed and vine charcoal. "Stairs" was assigned to both test our skills with perspective and composition. This was the stair case leading to my dorm apartment. The walls and the floors both had different textures and shading. One was smooth and soft and the other a bit more grainy. I tried using the erase away method in my advantage to accomplish this. However, seeing this now I realize much work was still needed. The railing is quite flattering as well as the lights on the stairs. Compressed charcoal, vine charcoal. Erase away drawing. For this assignment I had to draw an interior. So I took the liberty of drawing the interior of my best friend's dorm room. I enjoyed taking the liberty of making this slightly eerie. I also decided to add a version of him lying in his bed asleep. I wanted the viewer to feel inquisitive about this piece. Needles to say it was a success.
Drawing 2 professor instructed assigned us a still life that we were supposed to make a planar analysis of. So instead of drawing a perfect hula-hoop, I drew a more rough around the edges version using the light reflections as a reference. The media for this is black compressed charcoal, and vine charcoal. The drawing method was erase away.Angushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12175238861653088199noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-828619464296063312.post-70335560438116601182014-02-09T21:10:00.000-08:002014-02-10T14:49:44.944-08:00Negative/Positive 2. 2011

First of two in my Drawing 2 class. We were instructed to only draw the positive and negative space in a still life. This is a simple vine and compressed charcoal piece. This was the first time I tried the erase away method of making a charcoal drawing. This is when you completely cover your paper with your media (in this case charcoal) and start to gently erase certain parts.Angushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12175238861653088199noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-828619464296063312.post-18875514896491256242014-02-08T21:48:00.001-08:002014-02-08T21:48:26.994-08:00Drawing Process for Drawing 1 Final 2010

I am currently gathering all of the digital copies that I have of my artwork. I am looking to post some work from my freshmen year of college and sophomore year. I also have recent pieces that I have been working on since moving to West New York. I've been very disconnected with my artistic side. Look forward to see 20+ new pieces.
